Sudan has stressed the need to resolve outstanding points of contention in the legal framework of the Nile Basin Initiative as soon as possible in order to allow for establishment of a genuine partnership among all States without exception.
At remarks on the sidelines of the extraordinary Conference of Nile Basin initiative which was attended by Egypt for the first time in five years in Khartoum on Sunday, Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Electricity, Moataz Moussa, there are three articles remained at the level of the legal framework of the Nile Basin Initiative which should be considered by Nile basin States.
Sudan’s minister disclosed that these articles represented in "how to take decisions within the meetings of the Nile basin States or majority or unanimous vote and notification of Nile basin States when a Member State intends to do water development (planned measures), in addition to the existing agreements which were among States at the bilateral level.
He revealed the importance of transforming the vision of the Nile basin water-sharing to benefit-sharing
