The families of five secondary school students, abducted by militiamen east of Nierteti town, Central Darfur, on 31 December, have called on the authorities to intervene.

“Militiamen kidnapped a group of ten students when they were on their way from Nierteti to spend their holiday with their families in Guldong,” a relative of one of the abductees told Dabanga Sudan.

The kidnappers released five of them not much later, but they have demanded a ransom of SDG10,000 ($1,750) each for Shawgi Adam Ishag, Nasreldin Mohamed Osman, Ibrahim Abakar Ibrahim, Mohamed Adam, and Mahmoud Abdallah.

The families of the five students appealed via Dabanga to the authorities, and human rights organisations to intervene for the release of the students.
