Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The Joint Border Technical Committee between Sudan and South Sudan finished its meetings on Thursday which lasted (4) days and it agreed to convene its coming meetings in the capital of South Sudan of Juba.
The co-chair of committee from Sudan’s side stated that they agreed to establish a joint fund to finance the demarcation process and the joint call to donors to fund the operation and to provide technical support, and the formation of a joint technical team consists of 80 members, divided equally between the two countries, revealing that Khartoum and Juba differed on how to demarcate the 80% of the border and from where the demarcation line starts, pointing out that they agreed on the other agenda
He added that they will submit the differences to the Joint border Demarcation Commission, disclosing the coming meeting of the joint committee would hold in Juba to discuss the remaining agenda.
The African Union has announced its support to the two governments of Sudan and South Sudan in order to agree on demarcation of the borders as soon as possible, hoping that the two sides to agree to demarcate their common borders by 80%.
The head of AU liaison office in Sudan, Ambassador Mahmud Khan, told the state-run Sudanese Media Center (SMC) on Tuesday that AU has borders program and specialized team in the demarcation would support the two parties during their meeting in the capital Khartoum, pointing out that the joint border demarcation committee between Sudan and South Sudan will discuss establishing of the joint fund for donors to finance the activities of the committee.
