Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudan’s president, Omar Al-Bashir, has described the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) as " a security burden," and asked it to leave the country, stressing that the forces are no longer protect civilians, but protect the armed militants. At a press conference with leading figures of Sudanese media on Sunday, Al-Bashir said that he had ordered the Foreign Ministry to work with the United Nations to end the presence of (UNAMID) in war-torn Darfur region, considering that the international forces "are no longer capable of protecting itself. Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has asked the joint U.N.-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur to prepare to leave amid a dispute between the United Nations and Khartoum over an alleged mass rape in the region. Sudan initially refused to let the UNAMID peacekeepers visit a village to investigate the rape allegations. They were later allowed in and found no evidence that Sudanese troops had raped about 200 women and girls there, but UNAMID complained of a heavy military presence during interviews.
