Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-leader of Darfur’ rebel Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW), Abdel Wahid Nur, has criticized the Secretary-General of Sudan People Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), Yasser Arman on the back of call by the latter to regional autonomy fro Blue Nile and South Kordofan states, rejecting his movement’s participation in the coming negotiations between Sudan’s Government and the Darfur armed factions in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on 23 this month.
In an interview with the BBC in Addis Ababa on Thursday, Nur described SPLM-N call for autonomy of Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile States as political blackmail and media propaganda, adding that it’s better for Sudan to be governed by a secular federal state which separate religion from politics
He stressed that he would not participate in any negotiations do not lead to a change of the government, considering the rebel movements’ acceptance of negotiations with Khartoum as “political deal” in which Khartoum’s government seeks to distribute the constitutional positions to leaders of armed movements away from the interests of Darfur people.
In statements to several media, Yasir Arman, SPLM-N secretary general and head of its negotiating team for the talks on the Two Areas said they would not renounce from the Popular Consultation process provided in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005.
Arman further explained that, once this process is held, they will advocate for a regional territorial autonomy within one Sudan stressing on the important number of Christians in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, and the fact they were part of the Closed Districts, established by the colonial power, with the South Sudan
