Police officer convicted of attempted abduction

Khartoum-A police military court in Khartoum state has issued a verdict against a police officer (corporal) in connection with the abduction attempt of f the legal expert and chairman of the Sudanese Center for comparative human rights studies Dr. Mahmoud Sha’arani last February.


The court, which is chaired by police colonel Mubarak Al-Zain has sentenced the defendant to fine and prison. The verdict was read out in May 7 and has become final after the appeal period has passed. 2008.

Since Dr. Mahmoud has proved involvement of Karari locality and former head of Khartoum State Water Corporation in dealing with a false fees collection company, it is believed that the convicted police soldier was sent by people in the locality to silence any voices that speaks the truth and reveals corruption.
