Khartoum-A Sudanese court has acquitted the defendant in case of killing Dr. Sara Abdel-Baghi during last September demonstrations, and ordered his release.

Judge of Khartoum North Court Mohamed Sideq said that “there are contradictions in the testimonies of prosecution witnesses. The report was basically against unknown persons. These facts acquit the defendant from the charges against him”

The Judge of the court has ordered to hand over the weapon presented as prosecution evidence to Al-Doroshab police station in northern Khartoum.

A number of the activists raised banners rejecting the verdict before the security organs interfered to order the participants to leave the place. The police detained four activists and released them later Wednesday.

The security has arrested lawyer Mutasim Al-Haj, the chairman of the prosecution authority in the case, and released him at later time on Wednesday.

Al-Haj told the Citizen” I was arrested after the session. I remained at offices belong to Security service in Bahri for three hours, and accused of inciting protestors outside the court”

Last September, violent demonstrations erupted protesting a government decision to lift subsidies on oil. Human rights organizations said that around 200 persons were killed in the demonstration while the government said the number does not exceed 80.

The government did not issue official statistic revealing the names of those who were killed and the places where they were buried although it admitted that around 80 martyrs were killed in the demonstration.
