For Immediate Release
May, 9, 2014
The SPLA forces, commanded by Maj. Gen. Mathews Puljang Top, chased out renegade General Peter Gatdet out of Guit County. When the SPLA captured Bentiu on May, 4th, renegade Peter Gatdet retreated to Guit County and turned it into his military base.
This morning, a battalion of SPLA, commanded by Maj. Gen. Mathews Puljang, attacked Peter Gatdet at 6 am in the morning at Guit and captured his base. Peter Gatdet ran towards the White Nile with few bodyguards. His intention is to cross the Nile to Fangak County to link up with another notorious warlord, Gabriel Tanginya. The SPLA captured Two Toyota Land Cruisers mounted with 12.5 and several pieces of AK-47 ammos.
It is to be noted that the forces of renegade Peter Gatdet massacred civilians in Bentiu on April, 15 to 16 when the rebels captured the town. As a well-known warlord who has no regard to human rights, Peter Gatdet massacred civilians based on their ethnic and clan backgrounds. He is somebody who is on record saying that he doesn’t believe on the Cessation of Hostilities signed in Addis Ababa on January, 23rd. He also instructed all the rebel-terrorists under his command to kill Nuer civilians who don’t support Riek Machar. He ordered his rebels that massacring Dinka civilians is not a crime.
Maj. Gen. Mathews Puljang is now pursuing him in order to capture him alive so that he faces justice for crimes he committed on April, 15 to 16. As the U.S. Government noted, Peter Gatdet is a notorious warlord who does not believe in peace in the country. The only place he belongs to is a jail cell where he would be charged for committing crimes against humanity in Bentiu.
