Khartoum-The committee of Culture, Information and Tourism in the Parliament has affirmed that the tough punishments against journalists in the new draft law of press and publications are “just suggestions” , saying that they could be dropped at the stage of drafting the law based on the response of the concerned bodies.

Head of the Culture, Information and Tourism Committee in the Panel Afaf Tour said in press statements at the Parliament on Saturday that” we are still at the stage of draft law and we are receiving replies from concerned organs, adding that’ it is still early to judge the content of the draft law”.

She revealed receiving written replies from the National Council for Press and Publications and the Journalists Union in this regard. She said that the transformation in the political arena have pushed them into stopping work on the law and waiting for the results of the ongoing dialogue between the political powers.

She renewed the call for the political powers, the teachers of media, and all relevant institutions to send their suggestions and replies with regard to the bill.
