DONGOLA

(

29 Apr

.) -

Darfuri students at the University of Dongola in the Northern State staged a peaceful demonstration on Mondayandnbsp;in protest against the imposition of tuition fees.

One of the students told Radio Dabanga that the administration of the University of Dongola had demanded from each Darfuri student to prove that they are displaced, refugees, or affected by war, in order to be exempted from tuition fees. The Darfuri students had done so. They were surprised to hear from the university administration that each of them had to pay tuition fees of 1,200 SDG ($210), three weeks before the exams will take place.

The protesting students marched from the Faculty of Education to the students’ Deanship Office, where they were advised to consult the Darfur Regional Authority.
