New York-Monum Maki-A number of the Sudanese and American activists have gathered at the UN premises in New York on Monday demanding cessation of war, killing of civilians and bringing those accused of committing crimes against humanity to justice.
The participants have denounced the massacres committed by the pro Sudanese government Rapid Support Forces in several villages in North and South Darfur.
The organizers of the demonstration say that the main goal of the move is to draw the attention of the international community to the violations the pro government militias have been committing against civilians in Darfur and other areas in Sudan. They said that they also aim to urge the international criminal court to arrest the indicted persons who are believed to be involved in committing atrocities against innocent people.
Chairman of Darfur People Association in New York Mohmed Haround has said that the lack of seriousness by the Security Council and the effective powers in taking decisive decisions on Darfur issue encourages several parties to continue crimes of killing and arson in the troubled region.
