Khartoum-Members of the international Security Council urged, on Monday, South Sudan to immediately pull army personnel out of Abyei area, and urged Sudan to withdraw the police from the disputed oil field of Danfra north of the Abyei immediately.

The Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous, and the UN-African Union special envoy for Sudan and South Sudan have briefed the Security Council of the situations in Sudan and South Sudan in accordance with the resolution number 2046 and the situation in Abyei.
The Security Council urged Sudan and South Sudan to implement the unresolved items of the 2011 agreement on the security and administrative arrangements in Abyei, especially the redeployment of the forces of the two countries outside the region, pointing out that the agreement stipulates that Abyei is a an arm -free zone a matter that requires immediately disarmament of the militias.

The security Council expressed grave concern over the security and humanitarian situations, and denounced the recent clashes between armed elements. The Security Council commended the peacekeeping forces in Abyei and affirmed support to these forces.

The security council requested Khartoum and Juba to speed up formulation of the administration of Abyei area, and the police to take over the whole security duties in Abyei including the oil infrastructure.
