Khartoum-With the majority of its deputies, the parliament passed a new 33 item law on asylum. The article 31 has raised rigorous debate among the deputies that it could make any Sudanese person hiring any refugee at his home without work permit subject to prison and fine.
Head of Security Panel at the Parliament Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Amin has defended the article saying that the punishment is conditional on the citizen knowledge that the refugee has no permit.
In the meantime, deputy Ahmed Abdelrahman has criticized what he considered as not embracing refugees in Sudan for 50 years as against the values of the” civilization project”, saying that western and non-muslim countries have granted their nationalities to foreigners.
Head of the economic panel Dr. Omer Ali has expressed fears that the implementation of the law could lead to imprisonment of many Sudanese nationals.
