Khartoum-An Emirati medical team is expected to arrive on Monday in the capital Khartoum to take part in the humanitarian efforts to help those affected by the heavy rains and floods in the response on the initiative of the Zayed Centre and Sudanese center for Philanthropy and in coordination with the Sudanese health official institutions to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services and training to vulnerable groups, especially children and the elderly.
The Executive Director of Zayed Initiative, Dr. Adel El-Shamri, stressed aimed to provide help more than half a million people affected by the floods that have hit Sudan since early last August, pointing out that the medical team intended to mitigate the effects of the disaster that befell tens of thousands of Sudanese and destroyed homes
According to the latest government figures, heavy rains and flash floods has affected some 530,000 people across Sudan and destroyed or damaged 74,000 homes.
The figures were cited by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in its weekly humanitarian bulletin for Sudan, for the week ending 18 August.
The government’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) says the figures are initial estimates only, with the numbers set to rise even further as more detailed assessments are carried out.
Khartoum is the hardest hit state in the country, with an estimated 84,000 people affected by flood waters, which also caused extensive damage to houses and infrastructure
