600 Sudanese asylum seekers live in dire situation in Indonesia Jakarta-Informed sources in Jakarta have revealed that around 600 Sudanese asylum seekers live in very complicated situations in Indonesia in anticipation of their departure to their final destination in Australia. The sources said that around 4 Sudanese persons drowned when their boat on their way to Australia when their boat wrecked in the sea. The sources said that one of them is from South Sudan, pointing out that the South Sudan embassy in India has transported his body to Juba immediately after it was notified about the incident. In a state of anonymity, the same sources have criticized the attitude of the Sudanese embassy in Jakarta toward the asylum seekers as not following up their situations under the pretext that they do not want to meet any official authority nor return to Sudan. The same sources warned against consequences of smugglers in Sudan operating in transporting asylum seekers for huge amounts of money, urging the authorities to react as this phenomenon that has become a source of tension for the Sudanese community in Indonesia. Because of this phenomenon, the Sudanese nationals in Indonesia are facing harassment at Indonesian airports by the authorities, they added.
