 Sudanese Youth Need to Speak Up
|
Before the session of it’s southern counterpart, Sudan was Africa’s largest country, which made it the tenth largest nation in the world.
With a large oil industry that generates a large portion of the Sudanese economy, a future prospective in a mining empire, a profitable agricultural sect and a growing industrialized and urban nation, Sudan has the potential to be at the forefront of not only economic stability but innovation.
But we can’t deny, like most countries in today’s economy, with all the potential invested in our country we’ve befallen on hard times. With the introduction of the Sudanese pound, the value of the currency has fallen increasingly after its initiation and there have been large shortages in foreign trading exchanges. With all of this, Sudan has witnessed some of the nations worst inflation rates in decades.
Nonetheless, the economic and even political future of our country lies among a single group of people. People, who haven’t yet made their marks on the nation. People who aren’t usually heard, needless to say even considered.
The Sudanese youth.
It’s is our generation that inevitably will have control of our countries future in a few years. And yet, we play the smallest role today. Ironic really, when it is believed that 15.5 million people of Sudan’s total 34.5 million is 14 or younger. 42 percent, almost half of the countries population is compromised of youth. We are the majority, a majority with potential to change our country.
That is why it is so important that we strive to reach educational success. That is why it is so important for us to read about what happens around the world, and to write, stories and articles. That is why it is so important for us to explore our potential, go to college, travel, and then learn from the next few years.
Because in just a little bit, it was what we do now that will shape what we do in the future. A generation of intellectual growth and exploration will lead to a country wiling to innovate and grow. We have the potential to house the next Einstein, Steve Jobs or J.K Rowling.
This is why I urge you all to do just that. Think, learn, and raise your voice because it will one day change your country and maybe even change the world. Never underestimate how powerful your thoughts can be because inevitably Sudan will depend on it.

Yes, very true, thank you. BUT do not shy away from holding our generation responsible for the mess your generation finds itself in.
We have been in the "forgiveness" business for 60 years now. without holding the past by the horns your efforts will be wasted.
I think we are the generation who should be out there dodging the bullets and tear gas, Yes we did twice, but every time we let the past go and look where we are at now.
who thought we would succumb to a third military coup?

Thanks for your eloquent and loud young voice..
Our hope for this country lies at your hands and your generation's.
But...
allow me to criticize;
In our fondness of you and admiration as our little cuties...we supress the real feelings
or let me say, the directive views...Forgetting the BIG responsibilities you will soon have to face..without our clapping!
you (young folks)are so indifferent to what is going on around you!
We just hear the odd voice, like yours, occasionally, on paper!
You have to practically prove your presence, not in your locked groups,but in
the society among whom you live...picture and sound.
For example, with such beautiful ability to write, why didn't you comment on your 14 to 18
years old texts published somewhere on this board????
Do you, young people, always wait for someone to nudge you to talk?
Where are your societies and forums and whatever...like youth used to do in the past(sorry, I know you hate this phrase)?
Don't you care what is happenning to me as apensioner? Where I live? How I live? Wh......etc.
We do miss you around the 'grey' cultural, social and even political scene in this country...
This is why whatever we do.....
is dead dull and boring.
Your voice Omnia is the good omen we receive with great pleasure if you know...

Thank you so much for your comment, I appreciate you taking the time out to even read it. I agree with you in a sense, that yes, teens and others my age rarely speak out but I think the core of the problem is there isn't really place for them to do so. In the end we are teenagers, we're going to need that nudge, that push, to do something, we're after all kids. But, at it's root core there isn't a place for them to get interested and to really do so. I'm about to post an article about that very problem.
And I do believe that there are people who do speak out yet rarely do they get advertised and heard. For example, a couple months ago TedxYouth held a convention in Khartoum, in which teens spoke and gave presentation about issues and lessons that inspire them. Below, is one clip I really enjoyed is just a prime example of teens speaking out!

It did take you long to respond, but I am sure your excuses are acceptable
as long as you do mean what you say....
Great this TDX ideas I am following them and through the Ghada Award for Young Writers
we got in touch with the remarkable group and our contributor was Siham Mujammar, mother
of Ghada..I am sure you saw the vedio..Our project for the Young writers was based on the
motto: Investing on Grief
I hope you find the time to pop in next door to see the Young writers' articles in the
competion for the Ghada Award...These remarkable kids are surprizing us with their
creativity in so many fields and they are now helping in the running of the Award and
branch activities..
I hope you and your friends read, comment, suggest and participate..
