Most politicians and political analysts describe areas such: Abyei, Nuba Mountains, Southern Blue Nile, Darfur, Eastern Sudan … etc. as ‘a new south’, put it in a different way, they are areas that will soon be on a collision course with the Islamic regime in Khartoum after the independence of Southern Sudan.
War seemed to be a necessary evil for these areas to pursue the dream and vision of democratic, united and new Sudan and the only mechanism to weaken the dominances of the center over power and wealth as well and grant rights and freedom to the oppressed people in the remained parts of Sudan. Hoverer, the question posed here is how do these areas fight at this time?
Basically, war demand concentration militarily as well as economically, these two factors were taken highly into account by the NCP in pursuing its hereditary policy of Arabism, Islamism and Cultural Marginalization of the Sudan which had put the entire Sudan at a blaze, consequently, people of the margin revolted against it. Therefore, any war to be fought against the current regime should not over look the importance of the aforementioned two factors. The first factor military strength, there are several lessons people have learned from the strategy that SPLM have launched to battle the government in Khartoum. SPLM expanded its narrow vision and formed an alliance and coalition with the Nubans and people of Blue Nile, these new and strategic allies were a new drop of strength to the SPLM\A and played a significant role in liberation movement that put pressure on Khartoum administration, dragged the NCP to the negotiation table and eventually were enthroned by peace deal along with many other achievements. Therefore, leaders of the areas described as ‘new south’are expected to demonstrate a degree of political awareness and form a new military and political coalition; that bear a resemblance to SPLM\A to confront with the NCP as one man. The leaders should also avoid any security arrangement negotiations that seek to disarm warriors in their areas, a mistake if made, that would not only lead to a horrific genocide but it would be the Judgment Day.

Secondly, the Economic factor, in my modest view point, I think that despite the success of the SPLM coalition, it was short of economic concentration factor. During the struggle, the entire Sudan natural resources were under the control of the NCP which made it possible to them to build and purchase the most advanced military capabilities and will definitely, not hesitate to use them in their expected military operations in the ‘new south areas’. Therefore, political leaders of these areas are to ensure that all the natural resources are under their control and use it to develop and equip the human resources in their areas. This strategy if applied will weaken the NCP and strengthen the people of these areas. It will also help many of our fellow brothers whom the NCP have been using for decades to renegade and join the genuine struggle of liberty and freedom. Leaders are also required to demonstrate soft diplomacy and cooperate with the International Community to impose more Economic Sanctions on Khartoum regime.
I fully believe that applying these strategies with perseverance and patience, we will be best fighting our common enemies as we have understood their language to avoid their evils and attain our good; freedom, dignity, prosperity and equality.

    Muhialdin Bakini,
