    Hi Shining Star
That we spend all this time awaiting green traffic light strongly supports your assumption that what we know is not much; this at least applies to me for sure. I never even thought that there were people to count the number of hours we spend waiting for traffic light to change. And yet, each one of us spend deacdes writing and updating CVs whereby we announce achievements that presumably nobody has even dreamt of doing something similar.

    Hello Al-Saidg…

Thank you for delightful presence in my humble post…. Yeah it’s amazing what some of the people out there do to come up with these statistics….
3 weeks in front of traffic lights is defiantly a lot…. But at least we can say.. “we know exactly where 3 weeks of our life went….”

By the way.. I also found out that on average One-third of our life’s is spent sleeping!!! What a waist…..
But on the other hand it has been proven that a person can die much sooner from lack of sleep than starving….

I wonder how much time do we actually spend being with the people/places we love..!!

    Stay well…

ps... Your CV must be interesting... :o)

    Hello Shining Star
    Your warm words pleased me.
Sorry for my late response as I was bussy with making arrangements for my last exit visa from Saudi Arabia.
The idea that we spend one third of our age sleeping seemed to me quite appalling at first. But a moment's reflection reassured me that on average we sleep for eight hours out of the total hours of the day, which is ok. I don't know why I was scared by the observation initially.
Keep on making and reporting these useful observations- may be they help us increase our know-how margin at least to be THAT MUCH

    Hi Shining star;
It's great that you have shown up.
قديما قيل عي الصمت احسن من عي المنطق
كما قيل اذا كان الكلام من فضة فالسكوت من ذهب
These seem to support your observation concerning "silence" and "speech"
But still there are occasions whereby speech is more appropriate than silence. For example, no body counts on silence to evade a seriuos accusation before a court of law. In such situations people reinforce speech-related virtues by taking refuge into attorneys to get their views across.
All in all, your observation tend to generalise that there are more virtues in silence than in speech, which is not always relevant.
Will surely come back with more elaboration
    stay well

Re: Thoughts for the Day... (Re: ShiningStar)

    Salamat El-Sadig...

I think that every one should live with integrity, get what they want and deserve… speak ones truth, even if it might create conflict or tension… Behave in ways that are in harmony with ones personal values. Make choices based on what ones believe, and not what others believe.

settling is like getting one fish every day from someone, rather than learning how to fish…
every one should go out there and get what they are worth… and never give up… and never underestimate their dreams….

…do you think that one should settle for less, due to fear of not being able to get what one wants in the future….. ??

يعني ذي ما بقول المثل...طيرة في اليد ولا عشرة طايرات ؟؟

هل هواستسلام و السلام... ولا كيف؟

Please keep in mind… I am not underestimating simple wants and needs…

I will be looking forward to your comments …

Re: Thoughts for the Day... (Re: ShiningStar)

    Salamat Abdalla….

I also spend a lot of time here… it’s amazing how we get attached to a virtual place this much….
This brings to mind something that read, I will write it in Arabic cuz it will make more sense…

But on the other hand I also think it’s the best thing that happened to me in the last 10 years… It have been my home a way from home… Thanks to Bakri and all others who made worth while.

Last but not least….I really appreciate your nice comment and your presence, and hope to see you; and your participation more often.

    دمتم...

    Hala SA and your honorable guets;
Its always nice reading your rich contributions. We agree that we should do our best to have our wishes come true. but we must also consider the possibility of failure and success.
After they had got beaten in the last world cup tornament, Saudis blamed the media for giving them false view of their real power!!! They assumed that teams in Germany are the same as the ones they defeated in Asia!!! What I mean to say is: is it enough just to have a big wish?
Do you take it that we shouldnt count on "a bird in hand is worth ten in the bush?" It does seem to work ok for many people including myself. I'm afraid, the whole sudanese life seems to relate to this proverb. As I see it, it's one way to compromise paradoxes; viz. should people access what's available and ask for more or take refuge into 'all or none"?
It's once more nice debating with your challenging views

Re: Thoughts for the Day... (Re: ShiningStar)

    Salaaaaaam Al-Sadig….

It’s always a delight to see your comments…

Let me see if I can get my thoughts across clearly…. What I was trying to say is that people should NEVER settle for LESS than they think they deserve… They should always strive… cuz once we settle for less, that mean we will stop reaching for what we think we are worth….

Quote: is: is it enough just to have a big wish?

Every one has big wishes…. Even the people who have that ONE bird in their hand…

For example, today on my way to work.. I wished that I didn’t have to travel 45 min to get to work, I also wished that I had someone to drive me, So I can just set in the back seat and relax, listening to Sadeeg Al-Kahlawi… I also wished that birds wouldn’t fly soo low, so that they won’t get killed by cars like mine… I wished that people could stop being mean and ignorant …. I wished if I lived in a small house in al-fai7a with chickens running in the yard. And much more…

There are sooo many wishes… and wishes are often not practical nor doable in the near future….
A wish is like when you ask someone; what do you WANT? He/she could name many many things; the list would be endless…. But what I am talking about is when you ask someone what do you NEED? Then a person will be very precise and will list things he/she really need, things that will make their life better, easier, and valuable.. These are the things a person should not compromise on; or settle for less on them. See what I mean?

Quote: I'm afraid; the whole Sudanese life seems to relate to this proverb

You are right on this regard…. Many Sudanese people are very compromising and never want to take any risk…. And as you know my friend, like in any investment a person who choose to take a Zero risk investment, will get very minimal in-return…. Any thing higher than a Zero will give you more back…. But on the other hand you might lose a little… but this is what life is about, give and take…. And personally I’d rather lose a lill and get what I need at the end, than getting minimal, and spend my life wishing I did other wise…

    Contentment is bless….

Quote: Do you take it that we shouldn’t count on "a bird in hand is worth ten in the bush?" It does seem to work ok for many people including myself.

I surely think we shouldn’t let that ONE bird fly, however one should never stop there... One should ONLY stop if that ONE bird is what they think they deserve and need…

If I May ask; are you content?

I am out for now; duty calls… but will be back, and look forward for your input…

    Shining Star,

I just happended to be attracted to wonderful selections of quotes and facts, it is amazing and reflect how talented you are. Are you an artist or something?

I Personnally take quotes as unique to their authors' personal experience, it will be really ironic if the apply to any body else, however, their eloquency is shocking. Just a thought to share.

Thanks and please continue your outstanding performance in this board.

    Osman Ageeb.
