The leading figure of Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP), Nafie Ali Nafie, said that his party sees no reason whatsoever to postpone the next elections, pointing out that the postponement is the responsibility of the National Elections Commission (NEC), stressing that the competent authorities shall exercise its role and deal decisively with those seeking to disrupt the elections, warning the opposition to prevent people from voting In press conference on Monday, Nafie pointed out those elections is a constitutional entitlement is well known since the last election in 2010, noting that every citizen knows his rights and all people will continue to exercise their rights freely, and that the competent bodies will turn to prevent people to cast their ballots. He assured citizens that the next election would be safer and better than the last one , saying that the results of the forthcoming elections will be a genuine expression of confidence and conviction of Sudanese people, pointing out that the person who would win the elections he will have the right to appoint the appropriate Governors away from ethnic and tribal influences The NCP rejected calls by Sudanese opposition to postpone the general election scheduled for April until after the national dialogue and formation of a transitional government and insists that it is a constitutional requirement that must be met. For its part, the National Elections Commission (NEC) asserted that it the only body mandated with organizing polls n the country under the constitution and downplayed opposition boycott calls.
