In Mrach, 2013 , Khartoum hosted charmingly the visiting Britich poetess Francesca Beard that recited a long poem honouring Sudan : I speak the langauge of crescent to moon. I speak the langauge of the river bank to sweet tea. I speak the langauge of poems in flight to calligraphy”. I speak the langauge of tears and Great wall to send to my brothers in Bejing Sudan’s condolences over the lost Malayasian Air-Line plane that carried mostly chines. It is hard to wave a goodbye to your loves ones and more harder to see them burning in the Airport. How sad when reunion converts into conflagration and warmth on the rubble of love. So far, a slick of oil and separate flung door have been found from the wreckage of Maalysian Planes .It reminds me with an aircraft lamented by Nicholas Causely”…It fell from the sea of sky white like a whale bleeding oil..” Whoever travells, is an ambassador of his country transplanting it’s religion, culture and his hopes to another soil . Thankfully, my flight from Juba to Khartoum ended peacefully . The purpose of visiting Khartoum was to get to know what two Sudanese intelectualls think of Sudanese embassies operating abroad. Osman Mirghani is an eminent investigative journalists famous for his series of “an un-identified body” as well as his useful and daring opinion. Yousef Saeed served as Sudanese charg’e de’affaires in Ndjemena, the capital of Chad.
First, Osman Mirghani explained the reason of his proposed resolution to closing some embassies abroad as being an army of futile diplomats . He estimated the number of Dipllomatic personnel around 60 . He wondred if there was an ambassador such as Motaz who has left a creative imprint in hosting society. For the sake of fairness, Mr. Yousef Saeed as he spoke to me included other personalities that left their marks. He summed them up in Kamil El-tayeb Idris , the Director of(WIPO) , francis Deng, the author of “Cry of Owl”, the former Sudan’s ambassador to Stockholm and ambassador Yousef Omer Barido. (IGAD” is an inner child prodigy of his. Mr. Yousef Saeed claimed.
When the Sudanese president met the press , among the questions he was asked about Sudanese diplomacy. He gave a commendable testimony that ostensibly underpinned Mr. Yousef Saeed positive reaction to Mr Osman Mirghani viewpoint. As a previous member of Forieghn Service, Yousef Saeed felt offended by the disparging remark of Mr Osman Mirghani.”…It is un-objective, inaccurate and doesn’t befit his ethics” he said . in reference to his numerical assessment or appraisal of diplomats, he pointed out there is dearth of diplomatic staff that stemmed from the secession of Dsouth Sudan in 2011. He added that there would be an astounding new breed of competencies in the place of old laid-off diplomats.
Sitting among leaves, sipping tea and sipping coffee, Mr. Yousef Saeed fought back his tears as he recalled the dying moments of Ahmad Rahma, Sudanese Consul in Chad. “ He was shot on duty while trying to broker peace among the rivalling Chadian factions during the civil conflict in 1979. A gun was pointed to my chest” he claimed but he lived to tell the tale of Sudanese diplomacy sacrifices . Could Mr Osman Mirghani relent abit and bow his head in regrette to what Mr. Yousef Saeed regarded as a slight to Sudanese Foreign ministry? I hope so.
Mr. Yousef Saeed is obviously pleased with an all-female diplomatic representaion in Italy ,Geneva and Sweden where Sudaense raise the country emblem of dignity adorned with elegant Sudanese Tobes among the society ladies . The closure of embassies by just a key or pen stroke seemed to him an abrogation of feminine diplomatic posts to stay redundant. He cited the suspension of diplomatic representaion in the time of president Nimeiri imposed an isolationsim and re-instating it was a process so eexpensive. Mr. Yousef Saeed concluded “ It is the right of any citizen to criticize the Sudanese Foreign ministry on the basis of knowledge and meticulous probing” and that is good point to which I add respect and trust to effect the banal calls of dialogue the media druminto our ears.
