Welcome Hassan and thanks for the support. I look forward to a review (or 2) of a movie of your choice. Or, the least of faith, a comment; I hate to ask someone to be my follower! Why? I think it is the deep-seated dislike of sectarianism 'tai-fiya?' in my mind as a Sudanese! But you know what I mean! Happy new year to you and to all readers of SoL(E). Oh, I forgot to update on my last post there: Yamustafa!

Update The Silence of God Here is the movie that is all-embracing. It does not ask if God exists. It asks what if he does not! To rally support the movie uplifts the demand on God to give 'knowledge' not faith! It also advocates for those who cannot believe!

Whao Asma! Lincoln, one piece? That takes a professional! I ususally do not see a movie when it first comes out! The only thing I want to see fresh is bread! That's before I quit eating bread! So here is light thrown on the nature of what I write about movies. They are not reviews per se. I look for what alterations my memory has added to them (and the memories of movie-tellers-this extinct Sudanese genus!) The other day I saw again a movie that I had seen in my teens. I was so disappointed that it did not live up to the copy I had of it in my mind as a young man. The music, for one thing, was not even as vibrant. I made sure I wasn't watching another version (remake) of it. Also made sure that I was not under any effect. OK update this week with an article by the dramatist Badr Edeen Hassan Ali: The Best Egyptian Movie

Hi Asma What a lapse of time between your last post here and my reply! DMD is full of gems too small to be picked by a loving eye in a one time viewing. The call to own a copy of a movie is not just a promotion of that movie. It is just like the book "The Mark Twain Collection" was moved from under a mattress to under an armchair all the time my cousins were visiting. I would not open it for months but as soon as a cousin asked to borrow it then I would choose that I was on page 76 or any uncooked excuse. One crazy fan of Tarantino the movie-maker said he would find a wrist watch or a picture on the wall or even a small gadget that he had not noticed in his previous viewing. Here is my last Update in Yamustafa!

Yamustafa! Update This 17 year old steals the content of somebody's blog and publishes it in a book. The book goes viral. The girl earns decent money and gets nominated for a prize. When the truth is revealed she says: There is nothing called originality; there is only authenticity. Nobody prosecutes her. Literary and artistic spheres are full of other example of such audacity. Critics, sometimes, call it intertexutuality or plagiarism or more mysteriously the say: well, this writer or movie maker is just 'influenced by this other writer or filmmaker. There is more on this here: http://yamustafaya.blogspot.ca/2012/08/movie-critic-article-horizon-shot-and.htmlhttp://yamustafaya.blogspot.ca/2012/08/movie-critic-article-...orizon-shot-and.html MCA: The Horizon Shot and What Not

Yahustafa! Update Another documentary by a Sudanese young film maker. It follows a Canadian Sudanese in his first visit to his home island of Aba after 21 years of absence. It is also the first time the film maker visits his parent's people. A very emotional reception and festivities! Recommended for tearful but also enjoyable viewing!
