Khartoum’s State government has formed an inspection teams to launch daily inspection campaigns in the commercial shops and stores spreading in the residential neighborhoods and markets in the State estimated at 100 thousand shops for binding them to abide by the Act of Trade Organization and Consumer Protection providing for putting prices labels on each commodity and giving correct information about any commodity exhibited for sale as well as prohibiting monopoly and any other activity which will prejudice the eight rights of the consumer top of which to file suit and demand compensation.
The inspection teams are affiliated to the commercial administration of the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Consumer Affairs operating in collaboration with detectives and prosecution of consumer protection, economic security and standards and metrology organization.
General Director of Economy and Consumer Protection at Khartoum State Ministry of Finance Dr. Adil Abdulaziz Al Faki said the inspection campaigns is now roaming a number of districts and markets in the state at a rate of seven campaigns per day and each inspection team includes a number of individuals from the consumer protection prosecution, the detectives, Specification andStandards and economic security department, adding that these teams are a beginning of a big campaign for binding the owners of commercial stores to abide by the Act of Trade Organization and consumer protection issued three years ago but not enforces in the required form.
He said the Ministry is resolved to raise through these campaigns the awareness of the consumers and the traders and to enforce the law sternly which may punish the violators by fines not less than SDG5,000 and may reach SDG20,000 or may be punishable by imprisonment sometimes.
