Sudanese Church Council describes death sentence against Mariam for apostasy as oppression of Christians

Khartoum-The Sudanese Church Council has considered the verdict issued by Al-Haj Yousif court against Mariam Yahia as obvious and direct oppression against the Christians in Sudan.
Mariam, which is married to a foreign translator, was sentenced to death for apostasy and adultery under articles 126-146 of the criminal code.
Mariam gave birth in Prison in the past couple days.

The council said in statement that the sentence against Mariam has created resentment in Sudanese community in general and the Christian community in particular, describing the verdict as contradicting the interim constitution in the country.
