|
December 28, 2014-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The leading figure of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, disclosed that his party bodies had completed monitor and evaluation of implementation of the elections campaign of president Omar al-Bashir in the year 2014, and preparing for the electoral programme of the year 2015. Al-Bashir - in power since a 1989 coup - will stand for re-election in April 2015 after being retained as the leader of the ruling party. Al-Bashir, who is the only sitting head of state wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes, was re-elected as both leader and presidential candidate of the National Congress Party (NCP) last October The 2015 elections for the presidency and national and state parliaments will be only the second since the 1989 coup that brought Bashir to power. Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) said on Tuesday that it hasn’t received any requests to observe the elections from abroad, predicting that several countries and foreign agencies will submit requests during the coming period. It noted that submission of monitoring requests will end by December 31. Sudan’s opposition parties are refusing to participate saying the environment is not conducive for fair and free polls.
