Mbeki discusses with Al-Bashir the national dialogue and negotiations on Darfur and the Two Areas
|
Khartoum-SudaneseOnline -The head of the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP), Thabo Mbeki, will arrive to Khartoum on Nov. 4 meet with Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir. Sudan’s chief negotiator and presidential assistant Ibrahim Ghandour told The government-sponsored Sudan Media Center (SMC) website on Saturday that Mbeki would discuss with Al-Bashir the national dialogue and resumption of negotiations on Darfur, blue Nile and South Kordofan, revealing arrangements for meetings with leaders of the non-signatory movements to discuss the possibility to join the national dialogue. Ghandour added that AUHIP leader would meet with leading figures in the government and the oppositions’ parties , as will dialogue with the Government delegation to the negotiations in Addis with Sudan People Liberation Movement- North (SPLM-N) , noting that Mbeki's visit to Khartoum would last two days to discuss important issues in the country's political arena. The border states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile state have been the scene of violent conflict since June 2011 when the SPLM-N launched an insurgency against the Khartoum regime. Peace talks between the two parties remain deadlocked after they failed to reach a common ground for negotiations. While the government says it is only willing to discuss the conflict in the Two Areas, the SPLM-N is demanding a comprehensive peace process.
