DUP forms committee with rebels on Darfur peace and calls for international observers

Khartoum-The Democratic Unionist Party has reveled formation of a joint committee with the Justice and Equality Movement- the non-signatory faction to Doha peace agreement- and Sudan Liberation Movement to facilitate negotiation for peace in Darfur and to join Doha peace forum. In a brief statement upon a press conference on the “party’s view of the national dialogue process”, the leading member in the party and the minister for the council of ministers Ahmed Sa’ad Omer said that the leader of the party Mohamed Osman Al-Merghani has met with representative of Justice and Equality Movement Ahmed Tugud and deputy chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement Nour-Edayeim where he stressed the necessity of stopping war and working toward peace. He referred to the agreement on establishment of a joint committee to facilitate the negotiation process in order to reach a comprehensive peace in the region. In the same context, the spokesman of the party Ibrahim Al-Merghani said that there is no contradiction between the stance of the party as participant in the government and its dialogue with it.
