We came rushing as Koranic school kids knocking doors for alms In honor of the martyr’s sacrifice Facing Doshka and RPG Aspiring to build our new Sudan * I whispered from the sidewalk to the protesting masses I wished Humaid, the lark of revolution, were still alive He could have engraved his name on the sidewalk Could have sprinkled the fields with poems Could have waved the sword of victory Could have extended a hand to a Candaca We just wrote you a letter Humaid Posted by Haza’and Walid * The worthless soldiers offended us Accused us of smoking weed I presented them with a date and two flowers Why did they shower me with a hundred bullets؟ * They charged when girls were fast asleep Geared as police, security, and army We wanted to embrace together a home country They crushed us with their Doshkas like a handful of grain At the small hours of a holy Ramadan day, they violated us Mascaraing us like the unbelievers of Quraysh I presented him with a date and two flowers Why did he spat me with a hundred bullets in exchange؟ * I am asking your forgiveness, mother For I sneaked out when you were fast asleep Thinking of nothing but the barricade out there Guarded all night by my fasting comrades in tents A bullet hit me right into my liver Falling helplessly wordless and voiceless Do not cry after me, mother Say rather hi to the barricade And write on my tomb stone Civilian rule, freedom, and Peace
