What prompts me to write this is the manner in which Mirghani meetings with Sudanese are organised.
Many of you here probably read the news item without thinking about it but there are serious issues need to examined given that he claimed the meeting to be in the name of the NDA. I will not waste a single moment commenting if that was a private meeting of the DUP.
1. This was not an open meeting for Sudanese. I live in UK and with many others did not see any official declaration of the meeting but knew that it was by invitation only. Although all those who turned up managed to enter, nevertheless making it by invitation only is by nature exclusionist. Compare this with Dr Garang meetings that are announced in advance and open to all Sudanese.
2. The practice of asking for written questions so that he could choose what to answer and ignore serious questions is shameful as the result was a useless monologue.
As I made clear if this is a private meeting of the DUP I won’t care but the guy is using our names (Sudanese people) as NDA.
Since he managed to leave Sudan back in 1989, al-Mirghani visited London regularly, how many times did he meet the Sudanese in UK? His closed meetings with DUP do not count.
Given all this, is the current leadership of the NDA fit for the next phase?
Are they competent enough to influence the course of events?
Given al-Mirghani style of leadership (or lack of it) is he suitable as a political leader? The fiasco of Jeddah meeting with Ali Osman is there for any one to see.
And many questions remain but let us deal with these first.
