Subject: Formal Request to Reopen Investigation into the Murder of Human Rights Activist Abdelsalam Hassan – London, Sat 13 March 2010
Dear Sir/Madam, I, the undersigned, hereby formally request the reopening of the investigation into the murder of human rights activist Mr Abdelsalam Hassan Abdelsalam(DOB 19/11/1952), who was found murdered in London on 13th of March 2010 under suspicious circumstances that remain unresolved to this day, despite the passage of more than fifteen years.
More than fifteen years have passed since this heinous crime took place, yet no perpetrators have been identified, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain shrouded in mystery.
Mr Abdelsalam was a prominent human rights defender and played a significant role in advocating for refugee rights and human rights both in the UK and internationally. This raises serious questions about the motives behind his killing and the possible involvement of parties opposed to his work.
I base this request on fundamental principles of justice and human rights, as leaving this case unresolved constitutes a denial of justice and undermines public confidence in the UK’s criminal justice system, particularly in cases involving human rights defenders.
I firmly believe that ensuring justice in this case is both a legal and moral obligation, therefore, I respectfully request that: The investigation into this case be officially reopened. All existing evidence be thoroughly reviewed using the latest comprehensive forensic techniques. All potential witnesses and suspects be re-interviewed. Any new information or evidence from his family, friends, or human rights organizations be considered. Regular progress reports be made public to ensure transparency and respect for the public’s right to know. I have full confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the UK’s justice system, urge you to treat this request with the seriousness it deserves and I look forward to your cooperation in uncovering the truth and achieving justice.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Salah Al Bander Director Sudan Civic Foundation (Mowatin)
