Re: ترمب يقرر احتلال غزة (Re: Hassan Farah)

Earlier in the day, Trump suggested that he envisions a future in Gaza that largely does not involve Palestinians. He also stressed on bringing "great stability" to the Middle East, adding that "everyone loves" the idea of US owning "that piece of land", referring to the Gaza Strip.

"I don't think people should be going back to Gaza," Trump said in the Oval Office as quoted by CNN. "I heard that Gaza has been very unlucky for them. They live like hell. They live like they're living in hell. Gaza is not a place for people to be living, and the only reason they want to go back, and I believe this strongly, is because they have no alternative."

"I do see a long-term ownership position, and I see it bringing great stability to that part of the Middle East, and maybe the entire Middle East," Trump told reporters in the East Room of the White House. He said later: "This was not a decision made lightly. Everybody I've spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land, developing and creating thousands of jobs with something that will be magnificent."

Netanyahu, who is the first foreign leader to visit the US after Trump's return to the White House, held a meeting with the US President on Tuesday (local time).

Notably, US President Trump has been making similar assertions regarding the Gaza Strip in the past.

Last month, he suggested 'cleaning up' of the whole Strip and expressed the idea of moving Palestinians from the strip to some neighbouring countries.

Trump said he asked Jordan's Abdullah II, a key US partner in the region, to take in more Palestinians in a Saturday phone call. Trump said he would like both Jordan and Egypt - which borders Gaza - to house Palestinian people. (ANI)

Trump wants 'ethnic cleansing' with Gaza Strip takeover fume critics

Democrats were stunned and outraged after President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared the U.S. would take over Gaza.

The 78-year-old president made the jaw-dropping declaration at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

'The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,' Trump said.

'We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site,' he continued. 'Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings.'

Democrats took to social media and appeared on television to respond to his remarks in real time.

'He just said that it will be US policy to forcibly displace two million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. That is ethnic cleansing by another name,' said Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen Tuesday night in an interview on MSNBC.

'He’s totally lost it. A U.S. invasion of Gaza would lead to the slaughter of thousands of U.S. troops and decades of war in the Middle East. It’s like a bad, sick joke,' wrote Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut.

Murphy also argued in another post on X that Trump's intention was to distract 'from the real story - the billionaires seizing government to steal from regular people.'

'Wait what؟ The U.S. is going to occupy Gaza؟ We were promised no more endless wars,' wrote Congressman Eric Swalwell on X.

'By my count we are occupying Greenland, Canada, Panama Canal, and now..Gaza؟' Swalwell wrote.

The California lawmaker had reposted a clip of Trump responding to a question from a reporter at the press conference where he insisted he does see a 'long term ownership position' and claimed it would bring 'great stability to that part of the Middle East.'

In his remarks, Trump suggested it would be a 'Riviera of the Middle East.'

Some former Biden administration officials also weighed in online.

'To state the obvious, U.S. occupation of Gaza would require the United States to perpetrate wholesale ethnic cleansing and subject our forces to an unrelenting urban insurgency,' wrote former State Department spokesperson Ned Price.

'Despite Trump’s assertion, there isn’t a single regional leader who’d support this plan. Not one,' he said.

Anti-Trump Republicans were also quick to react to the president's comments.

'If the United States deploys troops to forcibly remove Muslims and Christians—like my cousins—from Gaza, then not only will the U.S. be mired in another reckless occupation but it will also be guilty of the crime of ethnic cleansing,' wrote former Republican Congressman and Trump critic Justin Amash.

'No American of good conscience should stand for this,' he added.

Democrats also noted the effort would never move forward in Congress.

'Any vote for the occupation of Gaza will fail in the Senate,' posted Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego. 'This is a non starter. What happed to the “anti war” President؟'

More than 40,000 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched strikes in the wake of the deadly Hamas terror attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes, and families are only just beginning to return to the rubble after a ceasefire deal was reached last month.
