Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas has died, her office announced Friday evening. She was 74 years old.
A cause of death was not immediately disclosed. Last month, however, Jackson Lee revealed that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
"A fierce champion of the people, she was affectionately and simply known as 'Congresswoman' by her constituents in recognition of her near-ubiquitous presence and service to their daily lives for more than 30 years," her office said in a statement.

It is with sadness and heavy heart when I learned the passing on of U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee from Texas on July 19, 2024.
This Iron Lady was instrumental in U.S. Congress advocating for the rights of the people of South Sudan to be free from Islamization, Arabization and marginalization.
I have known her for many years and she sponsored and co-sponsored many Bills in support of the marginalized people of South Sudan and on July 9, 2024 she was proud to have witnessed the people of South Sudan having an Independence Republic of South Sudan.
The people of South Sudan and their President, His Excelelncy Salva Kiir Mayardit appreciate your contributions to their freedom. President Kiir met you many times and asked for your support and your colleagues and you never let us down. I was a witness.
God Almighty will rest your beautiful soul in Peace until we meet again.
I wish I was in the USA now to attend your burial in my honor to you and your entire family.

Eulogy on the sad demise of a great Congresswoman: On the sad demise of the Honorable Congresswoman May God rest her soul in eternal peace. She was a great Kandaka (Queen of the Nile) I remeber with joy when I mentioned the greatness of the Ku####e Nubian Kandakas while I was talking about the Sudanese lady Mariam who was condemned by the Sudanese fanatic Islamists and declared her an apostate and heretic when she married a Christian South Sudanese man and she was about to be stoned unto death. I mentioned that the Kandakas used to lead armies and defend their land while these fanatic Islamists and Arabized Sudanese are still stoning women or burry them alive. The great Congresswomen late Sheila Jackson Lee shouted: " I am a KANDAKA". She was a Kandaka. May her soul RIP. Nuraddin Mannan
