El fortín de las FAR está ubicado en Nyala, en Darfur del Sur. Allí se dedican a entrenar a menores de edad, como pudo confirmar La Silla Vacía en esta investigación. La operación es liderada por el coronel retirado del Ejército colombiano, Álvaro Quijano, en alianza con una empresa de seguridad de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos (EAU), Global Security Service Group. El embajador de Sudán ante la ONU, Ammar Mahmoud, denunció la operación de los mercenarios colombianos en Sudán. Afirmó que son contratados por los Emiratos Árabes Unidos para apoyar a las FAR. Desde abril de 2023, las FAR, comandadas por Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, lanzaron un golpe de Estado al Ejército del general Abdel Fatah al Burhan en Sudán.
