Police: Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested in Deadly Ocean City Crash Posted: Jun 21, 2019 7:39 PM Updated: Jun 21, 2019 8:01 PM By Kye ParsonsCONNECT OCEAN CITY, Md.- A suspected drunk driver is facing multiple charges in connection with a fiery crash that left one person dead early Friday morning in Ocean City.
Ocean City police said the incident happened at around 1:15 a.m. in the area of 46th Street. The preliminary investigation indicates that officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, a white Lexus LX570, after receiving a call for a drunk driver.
Officers located the vehicle in the area of 59th Street and Coastal Highway and attempted to make the traffic stop. According to investigators, the driver failed to stop and officers then lost sight of the suspect vehicle.
Police said that moments later, the driver, Todd Pivec, 41, of Cockeysville, Md., then struck another vehicle going southbound. The southbound vehicle became engulfed in flames as a result of the accident. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police said Pivec’s vehicle became immobilized after striking a telephone pole. Authorities said Pivec attempted to run away but was immediately taken into custody by officers.
Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing and Pivec will be charged with manslaughter, homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated and several additional traffic-related offenses.
The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending next of kin notification.
