Sudan’s Kiir affirms seriousness to develop partnership with the ruling NCP

Sudan’s Kiir affirms seriousness to develop partnership with the ruling NCP

    Tuesday 11 April 2006.

April 10, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Before the South Sudan parliament, the Sudanese first vice-president asserted the seriousness of his movement to develop partnership with the ruling party on how to implement the peace to ensure development and provide services in the south, as well as find vital solutions for urgent national problems like the Darfur issue.

Salva KiirFirst Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS), Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, asserted seriousness of the Sudan people’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) to promote partnership and cooperation with the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) with respect to the implementation of the Comprehensive peace Agreement (CPA) as well as in realizing development and providing the citizens in the South with services.
The First Vice President further affirmed resolution to work hand-in-hand with the NCP to solve the issues of Darfur and eastern Sudan in order to realize peace and security in the country, considering that the SPLM and the NC have agreed on a unified vision for Abuja talks on Darfur.
During a recent visit to Juba by the Second Vice-President, Ali Osman Taha, an agreement was reached for a united negotiating stance to solve the Darfur and eastern Sudan problems so as to strengthen peace and security in the country.
During his address this morning at the Southern Sudan Legislative Council in Juba Gen. Mayrdit reviewed the achievements of the government of the South in the previous period as well as its future plans in all the domains, the state-run SUNA reported.
The First Vice President stressed the importance of continuing the close cooperation between the GOSS and the Legislative Council in order to implement these plans and policies.
He said that implementation and protecting the CPA is a collective responsibility, reiterating commitment to protect the citizens from the attacks by the Ugandan Lord Resistance Army as well as bringing to an end its existence in the South by any means.
He added that the GOSS is committed to combat corruption and nepotism in line with the law to enable the judiciary and police institutions carry out there duties.
Mayrdit also affirmed that his Government is concerned with enhancing the performance of the Civil Service and training of the government-employees in all the sectors.
His speech also touched on the intention to study the possibility of reopening the factories and rehabilitating the agricultural schemes that were stopped due to the war, explaining that among the priorities are the internal transport and roads that link the South and the North and the neighboring countries in order to enhance the social ties and bilateral relations.
The First Vice President further highlighted the plans to make available the necessary infrastructures and services in the South in the domains of information, communications, Heath and Education. He revealed that the Government of the South would work to promote the Economy, Trade, Agriculture and Mining as well as attracting foreign Investors.

Re: Sudan’s Kiir affirms seriousness to develop partnership with the ruling NCP (Re: Deng)

    Dear Deng
How is General Mayardit going to develop workable relations with the NCP, when he cannot retun Juba University its original campus in Juba? Many provisions of the CPA have yet to be implemented such as the redeployment of SAF to the north of 1956 borders, the determination or redemarcation of the 1st of January 1956 borders between the south and the north. As you may very well know, over the last fifty years, successive so-called national governments have encroched on the 1956 borders, starting with Abboud's annexation of Hofra el-Nahas to Darfur, Geger and Jawda to the White Nile Province, and so on and so forth. General Mayardit should give us a road map about these issues, instead of these generalities
    Regards
