The Sudan Studies Society of the United Kingdom (SSSUK) aspires to provide a limited number of modest grants to postgraduate students who are currently working on Sudan or Sudan/neighbours and registered at a British or Irish university to help pay for part of the cost of attending the conference.
Applicants need to complete an application form (e-mail [email protected]) and include their abstracts (200-300 words) with the application form. Those applying for the conference grants must be residents in UK or the Irish Republic (nationals, refugees, permanent residents, etc.) or on temporary student visas (regardless of nationality). A national of any current EU member state who is registered as student at a British or an Irish university can also apply.
Applicants do not have to be existing members of SSSUK to qualify for the conference grant so please inform any one you think may be interested.
Application forms (can be obtained from [email protected]) and abstracts must reach SSSUK by Friday 11/04/03.
Applicants are strongly advised to send their abstracts to SSA at the time of their application and to inform SSSUK as soon as they receive communications from SSA. Awards will be made conditional on: 1. The acceptance of the paper by the conference organisers (SSA). 2. The submission of the full written paper to SSSUK by Friday 30/05/03. 3. The agreement that SSSUK can publish the paper in Sudan Studies (SSSUK Journal) after consultation with SSA (the conference organisers). 4. The applicant is able to cover the rest of the required finance to attend the conference (documentary evidence must be provided before any transfer of funds can take place). 5. The applicant is able to secure an entry visa to US (for those who require a visa to enter US).
If the application is successful and a conditional award is made, the applicant will be issued with a letter stating that a conditional grant is made and the conditions will be listed for the purposes of obtaining visas or more funds.
Remember: Application forms and abstracts must be received by FRIDAY 11/04/03
