1 PROLOGUE


Baggara tea culture is more than extraordinary or exotic culture. Nowhere in the world other than Baggara tribes territories can one find that people could be taken to courts because they violated tea drinking traditions, or because they abused the way of tea brewing. Is that amazing! It could be beyond believe, for many people, to know that people in Baggara zones are fined or mercilessly flogged in tea courts for the consequences of their actions of not following or not respecting Baggara tea traditions. Scaffolding fights, defamation and name calling between tea drinkers – called Baramka, and tea abusers – called Kamakla, represent the epic of Baggara’s tea culture and tea traditions. It is apt to ask whether there is a similar contentious animosity between Baggara’s coffee brewers and non-coffee brewers. The answer is absolutely not; whether one abuse coffee drinking or brewing nobody cares. Similar answer goes for any other drink but tea. Baggara are all ears if tea is involved, or tea traditions violated.
In contrast to the brutal side of Baggara tea traditions, there is a lustrously sunny and bright side of the tea traditions: tea poems, tea ceremonies, tea songs and hymns are just a tip of an iceberg of amazing, sensational moments in tea traditions. It is a usual scene during festivities that one can see someone being praised and highly recognized or appreciated by tea poets or others because of being tea traditionalist, tea enthusiast or a lover of tea drinking. Tea traditions intertwine in every sense of Baggara life: from boosting their morality, improving their dress codes, redefining their ideal persona, scaling up social networking, harnessing their common hospitality, generosity, to boosting and enhancing their sexual desire and flaring up their libido. For all such intricate angularities of tea culture, tea and tea traditions serve a great purpose of transforming and revitalizing Baggara lifestyles. Such amazing tea traditions and culture are true and represent the pinnacle of Baggara people’s tea traditions at their best.
Tea is a unique drink in the eyes of Baggara people and it is the symbol of their hospitality. No other drink or food receives similar or more attention than tea in Baggara zones. The most important question is: why tea؟ The question remains an obscure, mind-boggling question with no clear cut single answer. Baggara have deeply rooted tea hospitality traditions. They are fond of tea drinking; they organize tea ceremonies, tea courts, and tea poems’ nights. In totality, Baggara have amazing tea culture and traditions and above all they are passionate tea brewers.
