Existing filling materials do not possess ideal characteristics to seal the pathways of communication between the external surfaces of the teeth and the root canal system. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) has most of the ideal characteristics of a good sealing material. Prof. Mahmoud Torabinejad then discussed the use of this material for pulp capping , apexogenesisand apexification, root perforations, root end filling for apical surgery and root canal filling material.
شكرا بروف ترابنجاد

Prf. Hatton made an overview on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine:
he said: tissue engineering and related approaches such as cell therapy represent potential new therapeutic approaches for treatment of trauma, disease and congenital defects in dentistry and craniofacial surgery. In simple terms, the term describes the combination of cells, scaffold biomaterials , and culture techniques to create living tissues for clinical use. While research in this field has intensified over the past decade , relatively few therapies have been translated from the laboratory to the patient. This is in part due to the technical challenges associatted with the preparation of clinically useful constructs , but also to the lack of an appropriate regulatory framework , the aim of his presentation was to consider the drivers that have proppeled research into tissue engineering to date, and evaluate the progress that has been made towards the engineering of tissues that might have applicationsin dentistry.
