The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of South Sudan
Celebrated July 9, 2011 in Washington, DC
Washington, DC – Diplomats, US Government officials, non-governmental organizations, investors, Sudanese Diaspora and friends of Sudan will gather on July 9, 2011 in Washington, DC to celebrate the birth of the Republic of South Sudan.
######### of State from more than 30 countries and thousands from around the world will join the people of South Sudan in Juba, South Sudan on July 9th to celebrate and to commemorate the birth of Africa's newest state. In addition to the official ceremony and celebration in Juba, festivities s are planned in locations throughout the United States and around the world. The public and press are invited to attend the following celebratory events in the Washington, DC area:

The United Nations will meet on July 13, 2011 to formally discuss membership and recognition of the Republic of South Sudan; and on July 14, 2011, the UNGeneral Assembly will vote on a resolution to accept South Sudan as the world’s 193rd UN Member State.
