A SECOND man has been arrested in connection with the murder of
leading human rights campaigner Abdel Salam Hassan Abdel Salam
The 29-year-old man was arrested at around 4.40pm yesterday
(March 18) at a property in Lee on suspicion of murder and burglary
He has been taken to a south London police station
Mr Abdel Salam was found dead in his bottom-floor flat in Boone Street, Lee
at around 7.10am on March 13 after a neighbour noticed his door was ajar
Paramedics pronounced the 56-year-old Sudanese human rights lawyer dead at the scene
A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as blood loss from a stab wound to his leg
Officers will be in Boone Street from 10pm tonight (March 19)
handing out leaflets and appealing to local residents for information
A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (March 17) on suspicion of murder and burglary
He remains in custody at a south London police station.
Mr Abdel Salam volunteered at human rights organisation Redress
before his death and was a lawyer and intellectual who had promoted human rights in Sudan for 30 years
He also worked closely with Human Rights Watch, the Sudan Human Rights Organisation and Justice Africa
