Quote: • 23:06 (DIP) TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTRY ON SUDANESE PRESIDENT'S VISIT TO TURKEY Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that a bilateral visit by President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan was out of question. The Ministry said in a statement on Friday that Turkey would host a summit of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul. "The summit will be organized by the OIC itself and member countries attend the event without invitation. The OIC does not have a decision to prevent participation of leaders of any of the member states. Turkey hosts the summit, but a bilateral visit is out of question," it said. "We are aware of the approaches of the European Union and some allied countries on the issue. In the same way, Turkey's attitudes are known by those countries. The presidency of the EU drew Turkey's attention to its views about the issue, and the Turkish party explained that it was a summit of the COMCEC organized by the OIC. Therefore, any diplomatic note by the EU is out of question," the Ministry added. President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan is expected to come to Turkey to attend a summit of the COMCEC of the OIC in Istanbul although an international court asked for his arrest on charges of crimes against humanity.
