We the Sudanese in the Diaspora find it really difficult to understand how the voting arrangements are the way they are. These is arrangements are anything but detrimental to exercising our right to vote. The blow is evident in that:
1/ Many Sudanese may not have a Sudanese identity document of those, the most likely not have that document are the Southern Sudanese. This begs the question of how are those Sudanese-and they are numerous- going to register? Accordingly how will they be able to vote at all?
2/ only two registration centres for Europe and 3 for USA and almost none for the whole of the African continent borders on the unthinkable. This is a most unreasonable arrangement. Are the Sudan Government and /or the Election commission serious?
3/ Time are not enough for people to register. On the light of the above and other issue, Registration time has to be extended.
4-Embassies have to consult with the Sudanese communities in the Diaspora on that and other issues.
This is an urgent appeal to all concerned to seriously consider this very serous matter. We appeal to the president of the Sudan to urgently look into this petition. Otherwise the whole democratic exercise is reduced to a mere contradiction in terms of the very essence of democracy.
Even if voting for the president, the exercise as it stands makes it impossible for millions of Sudanese in th4e Diaspora to vote.
