Quote: ربما يكون نيلسون مانديلا أشهر سجين أو على الاقل من أشهر السجناء الذين عرفهم العالم القرن الماضى، ولاشك أن إنجازاته جديرة الإعجاب، حيث لم يصبح فقط رئيسا لبلاده، جنوب افريقيا، بعد أن كان سجينا فيها لحوالى ثلاثة عقود، وإنما حصل أيضا على جائزة نوبل للسلام. ولم يقدم مانديلا أى تنازلات فى سبيل كفاحة الطويل ضد التفرقة العنصرية سواء فى بلاده أو خارجها ونال إعجاب الجماهير فى شتى إنحاء العالم من مختلف الألوان والجنسيات والأعمار والثقافات . واليوم تكرمه بريطانيا بنصب تمثال له فى ميدان البرلمان فى قلب العاصمة البريطانية لندن، ويحضر مانديلا الإحتفال الرسمى بهذه المناسبة. وقد قام بتصميم التمثال الفنان النحات إيان وولترز، ويبلغ ارتفاعه 2.7 مترا. ولكن ماقدر هذا التقدير؟ ما هى درجة التكريم الذى يحصل عليه مانديلا فى إطار القاموس البريطانى؟ صناع التاريخ ويجيب الصحفي البريطاني عادل درويش إن تمثال نيلسون مانديلا محاط بتماثيل من صنعوا التاريخ ومن صنعوا الديمقراطية، تمثال إبراهام لنكولن، تمثال أوليفر كرومويل، تمثال ونستون تشرشل وغيرهم من العظماء. وتابع قائلا "ولذا فإن وجوده جغرافيا وسياسيا فى مكان يعتبر أم الديمقراطية هو تكريم يحلم به أى بريطانى فما بالك بتكريم شخص غير بريطانى". ولكن ما الذى يجعل مانديلا يحظى بهذه المكانة الخاصة فى بريطانيا؟ ما الذى يجعلهم سواء أكانوا من الحكومة او المعارضة، من الصحافة والإعلام أو الفنون والعلوم، من المثقفين أو العامة يتعاملون معه وكأنه رمز بريطانى؟ مع العلم بأن هناك من البريطانيين ومن كبار الساسة والمسؤولين من كان يعتبر مانديلا إرهابيا؟ إن تمثال نيلسون مانديلا محاط بتماثيل من صنعوا التاريخ ومن صنعوا الديمقراطية، تمثال إبراهام لينكون، تمثال أوليفر كرومويل، تمثال ونستون تشرتشل وغيرهم من العظماء الصحفي البريطاني عادل درويش ويجيب مايكل وايت الصحفى فى صحيفة الغارديان البريطانية "إنه محبوب جدا فى بريطانيا ، قضى فى السجن مدة طويلة جدا وشاع ذلك بين الجماهير العريضة التى تعاطفت معه". وتابع قائلا "إن رئيسة الوزراء السابقة مارجريت تاتشر كانت تعتبره إرهابيا حتى نهاية فترة حكمها تقريبا وكان هذا من أخطائها العديدة. من أهم السمات التى تميز منديلا أنه شخصية كارزمايه حكيمة وكريمة، عانى كثيرا، وإنتصر على أعدائه ولكنه لم ينتقم منهم، سياسى محنك ولكنه يتصرف كمواطن عادى بسيط". مكانة بريطانيا ولكن ماذا عن مانديلا نفسه، هل لبريطانيا مكانة خاصة فى نفسه؟ تجيب الصحفية الجنوب افريقية فيكتوريا هولدسوورث "أعتقد أن لبريطانيا مكانة خاصة جدا فى قلب نيلسون مانديلا وذلك بسبب مناصرة مؤيديه فى بريطانيا له ولقضاياه طوال فترة سجنه التى إستمرت لستة وعشرين عاما". وأضافت قائلة "وقد إستمرت هذه العلاقة الخاصة بعد الإفراج عنه وخلال فترة رئاسته ونشاطه من أجل المرأة والطفل ومرضى الإيدز". وقد عبر مانديلا عن عظيم سعادته لآن يقف تمثال له جنبا الى جنب فى ميدان البرلمان البريطانى مع تمثالين لعظماء أمثال وينستون تشرشل.
