Chadian government forces have repelled an early morning rebel assault in the capital, N'Djamena. By 1100 local time the government had declared a massive victory
The press were invited by senior military commanders to the country's parliament building, the National Assembly. It was from here that the rebels launched their attack.
They had infiltrated from the city's outskirts prior to initiating their assault. This group of alleged rebel fighters had been taken prisoner
A large crowd had gathered. Here they look at the dead bodies of seven rebels, unceremoniously piled up by government forces. The steps were soaked in blood.
The route to the Palais de 15 Janvier, as the building is called, was almost deserted, but scores of Toyota pick-up trucks carrying Chadian soldiers were racing to and from the building.
