World Refugee Day 2025 On World Refugee Day, 20 June, the ITUC stands in solidarity with refugees everywhere. At a time when conflict, inequality, and climate disasters have forced more people than ever to flee their homes, our shared commitment must go beyond words – it must be translated into action. Refugees are workers. They are educators, nurses, builders, drivers, care workers, and much more. They want the chance to live in safety, rebuild their lives, and contribute to their societies with dignity. When given that chance, refugees become valued and productive members of their communities. All refugees have the right to decent work, fair treatment and full inclusion in economic and social life. We reject discrimination, xenophobia and the exploitation of refugee workers through precarious, dangerous or underpaid jobs. No worker should be denied their rights because of where they were born or the borders they were forced to cross. This year’s theme, Solidarity with Refugees, challenges us to amplify refugee voices, to defend their right to safety, and to ensure they are included in union organizing and social dialogue. Solidarity means standing with refugees as equals, not as victims – and making it clear that we are united. We call on governments,UNHCR and UNHCR implementing partners to uphold their obligations under international law to protect refugees and guarantee full access to labour rights. We call on employers to commit to fair and equal treatment for displaced workers. A just future is not possible while millions remain excluded and denied their rights. On this World Refugee Day, we reaffirm that solidarity with all workers and refugees is our most powerful tool.
