Paradoxes and Contradictions of al-Bashir’s Speech to NCP Youth Congr

Paradoxes and Contradictions of al-Bashir’s Speech to NCP Youth Congress in Khartoum
    By Mahmoud A. Suleiman
The News Media reported that the President of the National Congress Party (NCP), Self-proclaimed, Field Marshal Omer Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir, addressed the opening session of the Sixth General Conference of the National Federation of Sudanese Youth (NFSY), under the slogan (Together we make the future) at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum on Sunday September 15, 2013. Al-Bashir was quoted as saying "Our goal is to get into the year 2015 when the general elections at different levels would take place and run smoothly without areas of conflict and struggle and without areas outside the participation in free, transparent and fair elections. He added," We consider sitting in this chair we worship Almighty Allah (God) to be closer to Him we will not be near to God by cheating, deception and fraud. Furthermore, al-Bashir pledged that he had taken on himself to end the intertribal fighting and the armed movements’ rebellion in Sudan by the end of the year 2014. Nevertheless, he did not indicate as to how those promises and commitments would be met or what kind of means he intended to take to achieve those hefty pledges he included in his remarks in front of his audience of youth. Sizable number of his loyal audience said very little but their faces spoke volumes!
Omer al-Bashir talked about fair, free transparent general elections in 2015. The people of Sudan are sick, tired and weary and do not want to reproduce another National Islamic Front (NIF) project that has been tested over more than a decade and failed miserably. Al-Bashir talked copiously about “New Constitution” for Sudan after the secession of the Southern Sudan. He declared that the coming constitution would be “Arabic-Islamic constitution one hundred per cent” applied to everyone without exemption. The Sudanese people would challenge al-Bashir’s disrespect for the diversity of the remaining population of the post South secession.
The (NCP) President aL- Bashir said that the Sudanese youth were the basis for realizing peace, stability and social coherence. He ruled out need for foreign mediators to realize the peaceful coexistence among the Sudanese people. The irony is in the (NCP) regime’s trial to please the Western countries especially the United States of America (U.S.) for lifting sanctions and exemption of debts through providing intelligence on political Islamist organisations such as Al-Qaida, Hezbollah, Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood International. Furthermore, al-Bashir and his clique yearn to get visitors’ visas to the Western countries especially the U.S. lately.
Political analysts thought that as long as his speech was directed to the (NCP) youth in the first place, al-Bashir was telling those young people attending the Conference to engage in the Popular Defence Forces (PDF) in preparation for a new wave of Jihad to eliminate the insurgency in Darfur, Southern Kordofan, Blue Nile and elsewhere in Sudan by 2014. The reasons for the Conference become clear now when one realises that the majority of the ‘foot’ soldiers in the Sudan Armed Force (SAF) originate from the marginalised regions of the country where the rights led to the rebellion remain to be fulfilled by the (NCP) regime. Accordingly, al-Bashir and his clique in the army do not trust the sincerity of those soldiers at the battlefield.
This is a recurring rhetorical theme where the unrepentant Omer al-Bashir and his ilk, whenever their opportunities for applying the sinister plots of their regime narrowed, they would resort to hypocritical deception using religious ethos and texts that he preaches but never applies to himself. The conference is an arena for radicalization of those young people; believing that today’s young Sudanese as similar to their predecessors in the 1990s when “Jihad” declared against what the National Islamic Front (NIF) termed the “Infidels” the then people of Southern Sudan.
The ironies and paradoxes in Omer al-Bashir’s vacuous speech expose his lies. He talked extensively about the social fabric and called for mending it while his regime is responsible for the tearing it through a policy and doctrine of divide and rule. Al-Bashir told the young people to stop the bloodshed and proceed for nation building instead of killing. Here, al-Bashir evading his audience away from his recent purchases of fighter aircrafts and more lethal arsenal of weapons with the view to finish off the regime’s archenemy the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF). He then delves into other deep waters in his trash speech that he believes in peaceful transfer of power without the resort to a military coup d’état! The tyrant thinks his audiences forget the fact that he assumed power through the ill-fated coup of 30 June 1989 and continued ruling the country with an iron fist dominated by their former National Islamic Front (NIF) and its offshoot (NCP) regime. He then called for adherence to the national and religious principles. Al-Bashir preaches what he fails to apply to himself. The era of his authoritarian rule witnessed injustice, corruption, intolerance of other religious beliefs, restriction on fundamental freedoms, racism, nepotism, torture of political and war prisoners, killing of innocent civilians and committing reprehensible crimes including genocide. He lies in his speech when says his regime’s objective is peace while mobilizing the country and recruiting militias with minor children in their midst. Moreover, he continued his troubleshooting lying saying that all the Sudanese have the right to express their views in the form of political parties, civil society organisations or through the media and forums! Al-Bashir at this point tries to downplay the minds of his listeners and even insulting their intelligence. The truth is there are no freedoms in Sudan under the one-party regime of the (NCP) which disrupted the Constitution and enacted parallel repressive laws implemented by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS). Of the most repressive laws is Sudan’s Public Order Law (POL), Article 152 that is a vague clause existed to humiliate and corporal punishment of women by flogging on the pretext of alleged wearing indecent clothing or indecent behaviour; subjects them to stand trial and the article does not define what is meant precisely by indecent clothing or indecent behaviour. The Obsession of the NCP regime with women's clothing in Sudan is an absurd phenomenon. The Obsession of the Muslim Brotherhood ruling regime of the so-called National Salvation Revolution with women's clothes is something strange and absurd. It began with the trousers of the journalist Lubna Hussein and ending today with the engineer Amira Osman’s head Scarves!
The National Assembly exists in Khartoum, though, played no significant role in safeguarding basic freedoms in Sudan. Assembly Members, majority of whom are appointed or belonged to the NCP, have no power other than rubber-stamping the done deals. Confiscation of journalistic material prior to publication of newspapers by the National Intelligence and security apparatus (NISS) continued unabatedly in spite of the decision of the First Vice President of the Republic Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, who ordered the lifting of it.
The (NCP) regime spends more than 10 % of the annual budget on the oversized governance structure of ministers, advisors, so-called Constitutionalists and influential members of the clique who the state does not have any need for them at the expense of the poor helpless Sudanese citizens. Thus, the State of the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan has met all the criteria of a failed state.
Al-Bashir talks about peace in Sudan as his strategy while his army and the unleashed allied militias run amok for killing spree, #####ng properties, burning entire villages in the marginalised locations in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile with impunity and immunity. To say the least, it is a mockery and travesty of justice on innocent unarmed civilian populations. Talking of peace under the ‘Political Islam’, led by the NCP regime is expressly knocking lie in today’s Sudan.
Omar al-Bashir proclaimed the Sudanese people in his speech to agree on the national and religious principles while the actions of his regime in the form of murder, injustice, corruption and racism, expose his true intentions that are far from the national constants and the teachings of Islam.
Omer al-Bashir continues unhappy and miserable because of the reprehensible crimes he perpetrated against the people of Sudan in Darfur; those crimes chase him day and night and nightmares disturb his sleep while fear of the indictment by the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague haunts him.
The ruling regime of the (NCP) headed by a fugitive from international justice and the perpetrator of the heinous crime of genocide has abjectly failed to provide good governance in the country. The Sudanese people would not expect this entity repair from within as advocated by some optimistic Western political circles; NIF and its offshoots are so deformed to be reformed. Moreover, it is no longer able to provide the most basic elements of justice and citizenship and a decent living. Previous dialogues and negotiations led to more suffering to the marginalised people and gave the regime breath of time to live and corrupt. Accordingly, the aim of the Sudanese people is that al-Bashir’s regime needs ousting today before tomorrow and thrown into the dustbin of history. And restructuring of the Sudanese state, after the overthrow of the regime of the National Congress Party led by Omar al – Bashir, on the basis of citizenship , freedom, democracy , diversity, justice and equality, sustainable peace and decent living.
The people of Sudan remind the peace-loving world leaders and the international community not to only focus on the Syrian conflict, but pay more attention to the war in various parts of Sudan especially in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile where civilians face indiscriminate aerial bombardment by the NCP regime’s war fighter jets on daily basis. Furthermore, displacement, starvation and government sponsored crimes against humanity plaque them.
Cesar Chavez, the Latino American Farm worker, Labor leader and civil rights activist said: “Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.
