The Hands of the Islamists .. The Foundation of Strife and the Disruption of Ties Between Sudanese North and South.
Mohammed Abdullah Ibrahim [email protected]
Since yesterday evening, I have been following, through social media, unfortunate events that took place in some areas of South Sudan. These events involved clashes between groups of South Sudanese citizens and Sudanese citizens, most of whom are refugees due to the war in Sudan, and others involved in trade. The clashes were sparked by protests over the killing of several South Sudanese civilians by the Sudanese army and its militias in Wad Madani, Al-Jazeera State.
We express our deep sorrow and regret for these tragic events and share in the pain and grief of our brothers and sisters in South Sudan over the horrific massacres committed by the Sudanese army and its militias against innocent civilians, including women and children, both Sudanese and South Sudanese. These actions, which took place in Al-Jazeera State, must not go unpunished. The perpetrators must be held accountable and brought to justice. We emphasize the need for a fair and transparent trial with the harshest penalties to restore justice for the victims and their families.
We hold the Sudanese armed forces and their allied militias and armed movements fully responsible for what occurred. We consider this act a result of barbaric policies that fail to distinguish between innocent citizens and show no regard for human life and dignity. On another note, we thank the Presidency of the Republic of South Sudan, which issued an official statement calling on South Sudanese citizens to remain calm and avoid escalating tensions regarding the events in Al-Jazeera State. The South Sudanese police also affirmed that they are handling the situation responsibly and that there is no concern regarding the safety of Sudanese residents. They have strengthened their presence to secure markets and commercial establishments and protect them from any attempts to disrupt public order.
In this context, I have observed through social media some irresponsible statements from certain Sudanese and South Sudanese individuals who lack ethical responsibility and spread messages of hatred and racism between Sudanese and South Sudanese, using methods that are crude and demeaning, reaching the lowest levels of morality and values. These irresponsible actions are one of the main causes behind the escalation of strife and the unfortunate events that occurred, especially from Sudanese groups that have sided with the warring factions in Sudan, whether the army, Rapid Support Forces, militias, or armed movements. These individuals, who are victims of barbaric policies that contributed to the secession of South Sudan, must respect themselves and restore the ethical values and humanitarian conscience that preserve societies and safeguard their security and dignity.
The bond between the people of Sudan and South Sudan is one, and their relationship is not just geographical but a crucial one that transcends borders. What unites the two peoples is greater than any conflict or dispute. Therefore, it is essential for all to avoid giving opportunities to criminals and weak-minded individuals with corrupt agendas who seek to fuel divisions between the two peoples, especially the Islamists and the groups behind them who have devastated Sudan and are attempting to export its crises to neighboring countries. It is crucial for everyone to be fully aware of the plots and conspiracies being hatched against the interests of both peoples and to confront them by all legitimate means.
We also call on the government of South Sudan to hold accountable any groups within its borders that support any party in the conflict in Sudan, and to expel these groups immediately to ensure the stability and security of the region and the safety of South Sudanese citizens. We believe that achieving security and peace between Sudan and South Sudan requires everyone to stand firm against any attempts to destroy these historic relationships.
