In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
“And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror]. Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them, and their hearts are void” (Quran 14:42-43)
January 16, 2025 16th Rabi' al-Thani, 1446 AH
The recent security breakdowns in the city of Wad Madani and its outskirts, particularly targeting our southern brothers who bear no responsibility for this cursed war, are categorically unacceptable. These incidents must be halted immediately, and the perpetrators held accountable. Some of these violations have been documented with videos and photographs. These grave security breaches demand an international investigation to hold all offenders accountable and prevent such atrocities from recurring in the future.
The responsibility for these security breaches lies squarely with the military leadership, which has failed in its duty to protect the population. The recent recapture of the city of Wad Madani by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)involved the participation of the Bara’a Battalions, a group known for its religious fanaticism and its history of violence and bloodshed against innocents. This extremist group has been openly celebrated by the leadership of the Sudanese Armed Forces, particularly by its commander, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, has repeatedly refused to engage in dialogue with General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to achieve peace. Al-Burhan frequently claims that he intends to hand over Sudan to its people free of the RSF. However, in making this statement, he is deceitful on two counts.
First, he cannot achieve a decisive victory over the RSF. Second, he will not hand over power to the Sudanese people, as he is a dictator, authoritarian, and clings to power.
The dire consequences of this war are borne by the citizens, who are the ultimate victims. They suffer not only from the security violations and abuses committed by the RSF and its affiliates but also from those perpetrated by the Sudanese Armed Forces and their members.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Republic of South Sudan,
The atrocities that occurred in the city of Wad Madani and its outskirts do not represent Sudan or its people. These acts were perpetrated by fanatic groups devoid of peace, love, brotherhood, or mercy. They falsely cloak their actions in the sanctity of Islam, a faith entirely innocent of their crimes. Violence has hardened their hearts to the extent that they have lost their humanity.
Please do not let these unfortunate incidents become a barrier between you and your brothers and sisters in the north, who have been welcomed and hosted by you with the utmost generosity and hospitality in your homeland, South Sudan.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Do not allow the religious extremist groups, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood, to exploit these incidents to create divisions between you and your northern brothers who live with you in your nation. Stand united against the Muslim Brotherhood, the merchants of religion, who are the root cause of Sudan’s suffering—both in the North and the South. Their extremist policies, far removed from the essence of Islam, were the primary cause of the separation of the South from the North.
You hold a special place in the hearts of your northern brothers and sisters, just as they hold a special place in yours. Nurture this bond so it can serve as the foundation for a brighter future for Sudan—a Sudan envisioned by Ustaz Mahmoud Mohamed Taha, who said: "The unity between South Sudan and North Sudan is destined to endure. Every attempt to divide it is doomed to fail." Let this vision guide us toward a shared future of peace, harmony, and prosperity.
I also dedicate to you the touching words of the South Sudanese poet Abdel Moneim Abdel Hai: "To the son of the North, I gave my heart, And to the son of the South, I held close with my very being."
As Ustaz Mahmoud Mohamed Taha beautifully said about you: "Southerners possess a purity as clear and refreshing as heavenly rain."
May Allah protect both Sudan and South Sudan from the evils of religious extremism.
