The United States of America is classified as a secular state, as its political constitution includes, but the secular nature or character has not reached the reality of the secularization of society and political life specifically in a holistic manner. and their different beliefs. Whereas, political life was intended not to be subject to religion due to the multiplicity of visions towards the religious factor, in light of a large country in which a large number of beliefs, nationalities and philosophical intellectual visions coexist, when secularization became the state of a large vessel capable of absorbing these differences and forging harmony between social pluralism. and politicians present among the population.
In return, the constitution grants all components or individuals the ability to practice their beliefs in the way they see fit on the public level, provided that this does not conflict with public safety and security, and at those limits, secularization resolves the issue and raises the sign of objection legally. It is certain that the United States, although it is considered one of the secular countries, but the reality indicates otherwise, the state has not yet reached the stage of comprehensive secularization and is still captive to the Protestant religious traditions of the majority of its population.
When comparing America to some European countries, the secular soul in the latter, we find it less present than its American counterpart, which means that the religious presence at the level of public life is strong and large, to the extent that the general current of American society sees themselves as Christian Protestant and Catholic believers, and this is not a problem. However, they are keen to reflect this Christian character on political life in particular, and they see it as part of the general traditions of society, and it follows from this not to approach that religious space, which is protected by a broad current of society, which will not allow its feelings to be marginalized and impose on the political elites the reality of observing its religious traditions.
The major problem is the presence of the exclusionary religious discourse, usually belonging to the American Christian Right, including its political parties, and this is usually directed towards Christian minorities, Muslims, Asian Buddhists, non-religious people, homosexuals, and many groups within the population. It is noticeable that there is a great deal of reality of mutual social hatred among the population, and not only that, but that its repercussions float on the surface in public life and cause visible damage, despite that many cases of declaring hatred and attacking groups and religions happen to pass without being subject to the reality of deterrence. And legal accountability! In the midst of this scene, many of the particles of hate speech practiced in public life pass without stopping at them legally, and due to this the aforementioned speech is usually repeated, despite the existence of clear laws that prevent the occurrence and practice of these abuses!
Those who practice hatred, incitement, and transgression, despite their ability to legally prosecute the perverted party, allow many of these facts to pass without stopping and end by allowing the perpetrators to evade legal accountability. In this regard, the Jewish community is an exception due to its keenness that hate speech does not pass towards it and towards others as well, although the second matter is sometimes subject to the political mood.
With regard to the Somali-American community, although it is usually subjected to hatred and aggression by some, as is the case with other Muslims, it finds sympathy and support from the American mainstream and its institutions. American Muslims! The ethnic group was the most prominent in terms of its members’ association with terrorism, against the background of the association of some of its youth with extremist Islamic religious forces. The factor of the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia in 2006 fueled that matter, which resulted in the participation of a number of young people in confronting that event and moving from America to Somalia on this background.
And not only that, but that there were cases that were in contact with al-Qaeda and ISIS, and as a result, the matter was classified due to its association with extremist religious forces as being related to terrorism, which has brought Somalis and Muslims a lot of condemnation, targeting, and moral and material damage, as some of their institutions are attacked between period and another.
When looking at the political experience of Han Omar, the Republican Party from the perspective of political competition was its opponent and the American right in general participated in that, and its outcome of sympathizers was the most prominent of which was its Democratic Party, liberal forces and Muslims, specifically the members of its Somali community. The incident of the Republican American pastor A.W. Jackson was not the first, nor will it be the last. The radio statement in which he said: “Congress has become more like an Islamic republic.” He went on to say more and affirmed his hatred of Muslims and their religion.
The man was not just a fanatical religious figure, but rather he represented a professional American politician who ran in 2013 for the position of Deputy Governor of Virginia and failed to do so due to his political and religious extremism, and his reference to Ilhan Omar’s deputy is not acceptable to a political figure representing a broad current of American society and the party A great politician with a wide presence and echoes his keenness on the secular option regardless of his roots and religious traditions.
The same attack was carried out by former US President Donald Trump against her, and this also includes the Republican Representative from Colorado Lauren Bonaparte, who described her counterpart Ilhan Omar as a jihadist, not to mention the number of threats she is constantly exposed to. In sum, the reality of secularism in American society is still making its way and has not reached its destination completely, which is the secularization of American political life in discourse and practice. Inevitably, this destination constitutes a safe option for the general population and their future in coexistence and homogeneity.
