September 15th Lecture on Democracy at the American University in Washington, DC Come one come all, to the American University for a stimulating lecture on Democracy, organized by Southern Sudanese Voice for Freedom, in partnership with Peace building & Development Institute at American University School of Int'l Service & Int'l Peace & Conflict Resolution. The forum is intended to focus on basic concepts of democracy and how these concepts can be applied to effect democratic transformation in our society. As Sudan veers towards elections in 2009, understanding of these democratic ideals are essential to the success of the process. Special Guest Speaker Dave Peterson, the Senior Director of the Africa Program at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Since 1988, Dave has been responsible for NED's program to identify and assist hundreds of African non-governmental organizations and activists working for democracy, human rights, free press, justice and peace. Dave made numerous trips to Sudan over the years and has written a number of articles. �Peaceful change and the rise of Sudan's democracy movement� is one of Dave�s articles published in African Security review.
