Sudan expects a new representative for UNDP resident coordinator in the coming days

Jan 21, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has expected a new representative for U.N. resident coordinator at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ali Al-Za'tari, in the coming days. Sudan’s Foreign Ministry’s spokesmen, Yousif Al-Kordofani, stressed that his government is committed to its decision to expel Al-Za'tari and the UNDP's country director, Yvonne Helle, pointing out that UN has not yet name a replacement. Sudan’s diplomat confirmed Khartoum’s government keenness to cooperate with the United Nations in accordance with the international conventions, noting that UN had expressed its understanding to Sudan’s position. Sudan ordered Ali Al-Za'tari and Helle to leave the country President Omar Hassan al-Bashir called for peacekeepers from UNAMID, the joint U.N.-African Union Mission in Darfur, to leave. Sudan’s Foreign Ministry said that Sudan’s decision to expel Za’tari because of comments he made in an interview with a Norwegian newspaper that appeared to criticize the Sudanese people.
